CONGRATULATIONS TO  MARY KUBICHEK AND CRAIG SILVA!!

On September 17, 2009 the Wyoming State Bar awarded Mary Kubichek, the Director of the Casper College Paralegal Program, and Craig Silva, a partner at Williams, Porter, Day & Neville, the Wyoming State Bar Pro Bono Volunteer Award for the Casper College Legal Services program. CCLS pairs Casper College paralegal students and graduates with pro bono attorneys to assist clients with civil legal matters. There is not a financial needs requirement. This is the only program in the country that is paralegal based and provides work product to clients. CCLS was funded for two years by Casper College Innovative Grants and is now funded by a line item of $5,000.00 which pays for the legal malpractice insurance and a paralegal work study position.

This program was also honored by the National Council of Instructional Administrators in May 2009, for Exemplary Initiative for Responding to Community Needs. Laura DuQuette, the paralegal for CCLS won the Outstanding Services Learning Award at Casper College in May 2009. The CCLS program has also been recognized by the American Association for Paralegal Educators and the National Institute for State and Organizational Development.
